Boasting a century of caps for his country, Ex-Besiktas defender Domagoj Vida is a legendary but also infamous figure within Croatian football.
When he was just a 23-year-old rookie, Vida was fined a €100,000 for having a beer on Dinamo Zagreb team bus. It was not like he was celebrating a win with a can of beer, Vida and his team were actually on their way to a match.

That wouldn’t be the last time Vida was at the center of controversy. A video of Vida shouting “glory to Ukraine ” and “burn Belgrade” while drinking a bottle of beer after beating Russia on penalties at the 2018 World Cup.
FIFA opened an investigation and Vida apologized for making political jokes. Although one would question, had the incident took place during World Cup 2022, in the shadow of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine – would FIFA open an investigation?
Qatar government banned the sale of alcohol during the World Cup. However unlucky for Vida, he didn’t have a chance to play a single minute on the field with the impressive Croatia team who ended up finishing the tournament in the third place.
Slava ukraini!
