Volkan Arslan’s Tiramisu vs Water Mix-Up
Former Galatasaray player Volkan Arslan phoned room service in Trabzon wanting dessert.
“Tiramisu gönderin.” (“Send us tiramisu”)
Five minutes later, there’s a knock at the door. The waiter arrives carrying a bottle of water.
“Abi, su.” (“Abi, -here is- water”)
The poor employee had heard “su” instead of “tiramisu,” accidentally reducing an elegant Italian dessert order into basic hydration.
Which, in fairness, probably says a lot about how uncommon tiramisu requests were in Turkish football hotels at the time.
This was Turkish football luxury in the early 2000s: European ambitions upstairs, prison cafeteria menu downstairs.
